Below are some succinct answers to questions we are frequently asked by Israeli backpackers that we meet along the Hummus Trails in both South America and South Asia. It’s always a joy to host Israelis for a meal and fellowship, and many of these questions often arise around the dinner table.
why do you care about israel and the jewish people?
The answer is quite simple. Israel and the Jewish people are very important in world history and in God’s plan and purpose for the ages. It was through the Jews that God gave His Word to the world. Every single book of the TaNaKh and the B’rit Chadashah was written down by a Jewish person. And, it is only by the Word of God that we Gentiles can know the One True God and His Messiah. Every Gentile follower of the God of Israel and Jesus the Messiah (ישוה המשיח) who holds a Bible in his hand owes a debt of gratitude to Israel and the Jewish people.
Also, a man really who loves God loves what God loves and hates what God hates. It’s pretty simple. The LORD is clear that He loves Israel and has a special purpose for them. Because He does not change and always keeps His promises, the sons of Jacob have never been consumed, and that despite their rebellion (Malachi 3:6). And, he that touches Israel touches the apple of God’s eye (Zechariah 2:8). Therefore, if we love God, we love what God loves, and God loves Israel and the Jewish people.
